Reddit is Decommissioning RSS

Reddit recently announced that it will be decommissioning its RSS feeds on November 13th. It’s never good when a company eliminates support for RSS, especially one so large. I use Reddit to aggregate news for lots of different topics I’m interested in, it seems like the best place to keep up to date on news in some of my areas of interest. For me, this is the nail in the coffin for Reddit. I never liked browsing it directly, and I don’t like that they are constantly at war with their users to force their phone app on us. RSS was my last haven for Reddit posts, and I don’t think I have any options left.

I get it, me browsing via RSS is probably less profitable than someone using their app, it is just another instance of enshitification. But now, they won’t get anything from me at all. They are claiming that AI is abusing RSS to scrape data, which is probably true to some extent, but I think this scraping will still happen anyway. I think that another motivating factor is driving traffic to mare profitable avenues. I’m not surprised, and I can’t blame them, but it is just an unfortunate reality of the state of the tech world.

In the end, I am going to have to seek new RSS feeds to make up for the loss, so maybe it helps the ecosystem thrive that little bit more.
