The 'No AI' Pledge

As I am starting this new endeavor to write and create, the tech world is racing to push the boundaries of AI. It is spewing out content at an alarming rate, and much of it is boring and uninspired. It is quite literally the average of our collective ideas. Trust me, I get the appeal of AI. I use it all the time for my work, Copilot has been very helpful to speed up my coding, and I use ChatGPT for many different things in my personal life.

I don’t want to lose the human touch in writing.

Therefore, I hereby promise to never use AI in any part of this blog. Everything you read here will be created entirely by me and me alone. I will make mistakes, weird analogies, or go off on tangents. Those quirks are what make reading fun.

Sure, AI can replicate those quirks if you tell it to. It can even perfectly emulate me! But I maintain that there is something special about you and me that makes us human. The act of sitting down at a desk, thinking, and writing is special and shouldn’t be taken for granted. AI tools like LLMs can say the words “I love you”, but they can’t mean it, at least not yet.

I think as AI becomes even more pervasive, authentic writers online will become rarer, and difficult to find. There is no enforcing my promise, at least not yet. You have to just trust me.

That is a scary thought.
